Research Experience

Cat Collar and Automatic Cat Door Design Based on Machine Learning

April 2021 – May 2022
National Undergraduate Training Program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship | Advisor: Prof. You Wang
  • Designed a collar for cats based on Arduino Nano 33 board which collected environmental information such as location, temperature, humidity, and pressure through sensors and transmitted it to the server via the GSM module.
  • Integrated the above algorithm into the ESP32 module in place of the Arduino board to miniaturize the collar.
  • Built neural networks (NN) with Keras to recognize the cat’s movement based on the collected sensor data; trained NN to identify the cat’s state with the CatMeows audio dataset published by the University of Milan.
  • Built a YoloV5-based cat face recognition model and deployed it on automatic doors for automatic opening and closing.
  • Realized real-time Web and App display of cat’s information and control of corresponding devices.

Defense Strategy For Robot Cars Based on Local-game Decomposition

Aug 2021 – Oct 2022
1st Prize of Robocup Small Size League (RobocupSSL) in Zhejiang Area | Advisor: Prof. Rong Xiong
  • Updated the defense strategy for Zhejiang University Team, ZJUNlict.
  • Calculated the theoretical area each robot can defend independently based on their position, velocity, and acceleration information attained from images.
  • Geometrically deduced the extra regions that each pair of defenders could hold when in cooperative defense.
  • Assigned the robots into several sub-teams to defend against different enemies according to their position, velocity, and the regions each cooperation could hold.

Internet-based Camera Measurement System

Oct 2021
2nd Prize of 2021 National UG Electronics Design Contest in Zhejiang Area | Advisor: Prof. Jiang Yang & Prof. You Wang
  • Set up two independent nodes, each consisting of a Raspberry PI with a camera, a terminal node consisting of a Jetson Nano with a screen, and the Local Area Network(LAN) with an Ethernet switch for real-time image transmission from two Raspberry PIs to the terminal node.
  • Applied frame difference method, zero-order hold, and adaptive thresholding to capture the position of the target, a laser pointer suspended with a rope, using OpenCV in Python.
  • Calculated the length of suspension rope based on the period of the single pendulum; worked out the angle between the swing direction and the given one based on the motion range of the two images of the orthogonally placed cameras.

Selected Projects

IoT-Based Intelligent Non-motorized Vehicles Control System Design

Sep 2021 – Nov 2021
  • Used a portable router to build the edge computing end on the bicycle, connecting TB-RK3399 and ESP32 via TCP.
  • Applied GPS/GSM module to connect the bicycle and cloud server.
  • Collected information from the inertial measurement unit (IMU) to judge whether the bicycle was toppled.
  • Built the face recognition system using OpenCV in Python for automatic unlocking.
  • Developed an APP for real-time display of bicycle status, remote unlocking, and anti-theft alarm.

Multi-sensor Laboratory Warning System

Sep 2021 – Nov 2021
  • Wrapped the STM32 and multiple sensors, including flame, sound, temperature, smoke, and VOC sensors, in a 3D-printed box as the detection node.
  • Obtained the environment information at different locations in one lab using a Raspberry PI communicating with multiple STM32 nodes via the spring antenna on them and the information of different labs using a central computer communicating with multiple Raspberry PIs located in different labs.
  • Created a Graphical User Interface (GUI) on the PC side for real-time display of the situation of each lab with PyQt.

Simple Portable Electrocardiograph

Jul 2021 – Aug 2021
  • Adopted bipolar limb leads; collected ECG signals using AD8232 module with STM32F4, and transmitted information to cell phone end through BT05 Bluetooth module.
  • Removed high-frequency interference caused by EMG signal with second-order low-pass Butterworth filter.
  • Added 150Hz, 200Hz, and 250Hz IIR notch filters to remove power-frequency interference.
  • Realized real-time visualization of ECG signals on cell phone App.
